Toyota Floor Mats
In September 2009, at the request of the Department of Transportation, Toyota recalled approximately 3.8 million Toyota and Lexus vehicles. The driver side floor mates are suspected of catching or snagging on the gas pedal or accelerator. When the gas pedal gets stuck, the vehicle may become difficult or impossible to stop which may lead to a crash.
The following models have been recalled:
- Toyota Camry model years 2007 to 2010
- Toyota Avalon model years 2005 to 2010
- Toyota Prius model years 2004 to 2009
- Toyota Tacoma model years 2005 to 2010
- Toyota Tundra model years 2007 to 2010
- Lexus ES 350 model years 2007 to 2010
- Lexus IS 250 model years 2006 to 2010
- Lexus IS 350 model years 2006 to 2010
Toyota received reports of the floor mat problem as early as 2007, however, Toyota failed to issue a recall until two years later. Had Toyota issued the recall earlier, many deaths and serious injuries could have been avoided.
