Denture Creams

Denture Adhesive Creams such as Fixodent, Poligrip, and Super Poligrip all contain small amounts of zinc. However when large amounts of zinc are ingested over time, it may lead to serious medical problems.

In August 2008, researchers at the University of Texas Southwest Medical Center in Dallas published a study in the medical journal Neurology. The team had studied long-term denture adhesive users and concluded that use may cause serious neurological problems such as zinc poisoning (hyperzincuria), copper depletion (hypocupremia), nerve damage and even death. Symptoms of zinc poisoning and/or copper depletion include loss of sensation/tingling/numbness in the extremities (arms, legs, hands, feet), weakness or pain in the extremities, loss of balance or coordination problems, paralysis or inability to move extremities, and cognitive problems.
