In March 2009, Yamaha Motors recalled nearly 150,000 ATVs (Rhino models 450, 660, and 700 models) due to continued reports of accidents causing injuries such as broken arms and legs, head trauma and deaths. The vast majority of these accidents were caused by the ATVs rolling over. These rollovers may be the result of design defects which cause the ATVs to be unstable and likely to roll over. Further, many of the ATVs were sold without proper safety equipment to protect drivers and passengers during roll overs.
